November Training Day & Christmas Break up

This month, Sunday the 20th of November is our Water Test and Christmas Breakup.

The venue will be just out of Riddells Creek at the same location as we had last year. With plenty of water it's going to be a great day.

Water Test - $10 per entry. Enter on the day.

Beginners/Intermediate – Judge Bill Allen
Advanced – Judge Wayne Phelps

There will be a free lunch with the guys cooking up a great spit roast lamb with salads and plenty of icy cold drinks. And a Christmas raffle if you’re feeling lucky.

Directions to the site.
Head to Riddells Creek and then head north through the town on the Gisborne - Kilmore Rd. About 1km after the town there will be WGAA signs indicating to turn right into a private road called Frost Lane...follow the signs and you'll find us.

Perth Shot Expo – 22 & 23 October 16

Once again WGAA Vic dogs wowed large crowds at the SSAA Perth Shot Expo. Retrieves from a boat, pointing, backing, single and double marks were again the order of the day. Breeds featured were Labradors, Pointers, GSP’s, English Setters and Brittanys.

Over the past several years the WGAA teams have built up quite a reputation and have covered many kilometres with their demonstrations – Sydney 3 trips, Perth 3 trips, Melbourne many times and the Queensland members have also performed at the Brisbane Expo. Such exposure is invaluable in showing the public how a trained gundog is more than just a dog, but an invaluable part of sustainable hunting.

Congratulations to the many dogs, their handlers, choreographers, PA commentators, trap reloaders, drivers, ‘roadies’ and others who over the years have, often with their fingers crossed and heart racing, publicly performed in front of hundreds of spectators at one of the SSAA Expos. It ain’ t easy!

AGM 2016

The WGAA Annual General Meeting is on Thursday 17 November at the Keilor East RSL, 12-22 Hoffmans Rd. Essendon 3040 at 7.30pm. Join us for a meal beforehand.

The AGM is always a good get together and marks another great year for WGAA. Hope to see as many members as possible.

Retrieving Trial – 25 September 16

The club’s final event for the year, apart from the traditional Christmas breakup in November, was a retrieving trial at Serpentine. Excellent entries and good sportsmanship on the day, combined with some great dog work, marked the event.

Boggy conditions following recent heavy rains had some exciting moments with some cars being towed out of sticky situations, much to the amusement of our Queensland visitors.

Retrieving Trial 21 August 2016 – Results

The trial was held in the Murchison area. A last minute change of location was needed due to flooded conditions at the site – thank goodness for Facebook and text messaging which helped everyone get to the new site with a minimum of fuss.

Good fellowship and equally good dog work were hallmarks of the day.

A big thank you to the judges Byron Kendall and Andrew Yeomans.
